9 WAYS THAT YOGA CAN REVOLUTIONIZE YOUR GOLF GAME.

I’m currently in the process of creating my first yoga for golf online offering. Before I work on the mat to create the best sequences possible, I wanted to get back to basics a bit. And answer the question – how can yoga improve your golf game?

Anecdotally, I know that it has vastly improved my game. Plus, we always hear about tour pros who credit their time on the mat with their increased flexibility And I know that many of my in person clients benefit from attending a yoga class before playing a round. But I waned to get a bit more specific than that and set out the 9 ways that yoga can help you revolutionize your golf game.

1/ Yoga can make you swing faster

A faster swing isn’t all about raw strength; it’s about freedom of movement. Regular yoga practice increases your flexibility, letting you turn more fully and move more easily. This added spine and shoulder mobility helps you generate more speed without feeling like you’re forcing every shot. Effortless power—sounds pretty good, right?

2/ Yoga can help your swing rotation

Struggling with that all-important rotation? You’re not alone. Golf demands a lot from your torso, and tight muscles can hold you back. Yoga, especially poses like revolved chair or seated twists, works wonders to open up your spine and hips. Improved rotation means a more fluid swing—no mechanical stiffness, just smooth motion.

3/ Yoga strengthens your core

Core strength is the backbone (quite literally) of a strong golf game. When your midsection is stable, every part of your swing benefits, from your backswing to your follow-through.

Yoga offers moves like boat pose and planks to keep your core engaged and strong. The more control you have over your body’s center, the more reliable your swing becomes.

4/ Yoga helps with balance

Golf courses aren’t always forgiving—think hills, uneven lies, and rough terrain. A good sense of balance is crucial, whether you’re putting or taking on a challenging lie. Yoga improves stability through poses like tree pose and various standing balances. Stronger balance means less wobbling and more confidence as you step up to the ball.

5/ Yoga can build your power

Yoga might not look like weightlifting, but it can seriously build your strength. Poses such as warrior two, chair pose, and lunges target your legs and hips, adding power to your drives. The next time you’re at the tee box, that extra strength will show in every solid strike.

6/ Yoga can prevent injuries

Golfers know how easy it is to get hurt—aching backs, sore shoulders, tight knees. Yoga strengthens weak spots and stretches tight ones, reducing your risk of injury. A well-maintained body means fewer days in recovery mode and more days enjoying the game.

7/ Yoga can aid recovery

After a long round or an intense practice session, your body needs to bounce back. Yoga helps speed up recovery with gentle stretching, relaxation, and focused breathing. Instead of waking up feeling stiff, a simple yoga flow can leave you feeling refreshed and ready to play.

8/ Yoga can improve mental focus

Golf isn’t just physical; it’s a mental game too. Anyone who has ever fluffed a crucial put knows this!

Focus and calm under pressure can make or break your round. Yoga trains you to centre your attention and stay present through breathwork and meditation. When you’re more focused, each shot becomes an opportunity—not a stress point.

9/ Yoga can reduce stress

Golf can be frustrating—missed putts, errant drives, the works. Yoga’s stress-relieving benefits come in handy both on and off the course. Deep breathing and mindful movement help keep cortisol levels in check, making it easier to keep your cool no matter what challenges arise.
